The National Forest encompasses much of East Staffordshire is one of the country's boldest environmental projects transforming 200 sq mile forest in the English Midlands. With quiet country lanes, cycling trails and bridleways the forest is a haven for walking, cycling and horse-riding.
In particular Jacksons Bank at Hoar Cross in Burton upon Trent is a mature, mixed broadleaved and coniferous woodland spreading over 80 acres in the heart of the ancient Needwood Forest.
Branston Water Park at Lichfield Road, Branston, Burton upon Trent is a 40-acre lake surrounded by woodland, wetland and meadows that supports a wide range of wildlife with one mile surfaced path around the lake.
Trent Washlands is a large area of the River Trent floodplain close to Burton on Trent town centre. Attractions include Stapenhill Gardens, the Viking ship play area, a sculpture trail and nature walks.
The National Forest Maize Maze & Fun Field offers tractor and trailer rides, go-carts, the jumping pillow.
Located in the heart of the country within the National Forest, the National Memorial Arboretum comprises 150 acres of trees and memorials devoted to the concept of Remembrance
